How can you be sure you are up to date?

The first thing to check is Windows Updates.  These are security patches from Microsoft which plug the holes in Windows and prevent the bad guys using web exploits to install software you don't want, amongst other things!  In Internet Explorer (not Firefox owing to the Microsoft specific technology used), click Tools and then Windows Updates.  Then push the Express option and install any updates which appear.

Your antivirus software also needs to be kept up to date.  Hopefully they are auto updating, but it pays to check them every so often just in case a mailicious program has disabled it without your knowledge.

As an employer you can also gain a certain amount of control over what sites your employees are permitted to visit.  By utilising the Content Filtering of our latest Draytek routers for instance, you can keep employees from browsing those sorts of sites where 'malware' is most likely to be found.
